Gregor Hildebrandt

Gregor Hildebrandt’s work is characterized by the use of vintage musical and film media like recorded tape of audio and video cassette tapes that he glues on canvas. Sometimes he installs tape as a widespread black fluttering membrane, in other work he uses black molded & compressed vinyl records to make majestic monochrome columns reminiscen.

The conceptual aspect of Hildebrandt’s work lies in the forming of a new silent narrative, that is as it were a pictoral and spatial archiving, as well as a recycling and personal juxtapostion of music and film history. Within these contemplative, mysterious and esthetic pictures, installations and sculptures lie hidden whole worlds of sound and image disposed off and yet having found a new life.

Gregor Hildebrandt was born in Bad Homburg, Germany, in 1974 and currently lives and works in Berlin.
